Rogelli Pontiac retro cycling jersey
Unique retro cycling jersey by Rogelli. This jersey is a hommage to Dutch legend Wim van Est who fell 70 meters into a ravine during the descend of the Col d'Aubisque in the 1951 Tour de France, whilst wearing the yellow jersey. He was lifted out of the ravine with a chain made of cycle tyres, crying, but was virtually unharmed (there is beautiful video footage of this available on Youtube, look for Wim van Est crash!). Pontiac, who sponsored the team's watches and which Van Est indeed had around his wrist when he fell, made a famous commercial featuring Van Est saying "I fell 70 meters down, my heart stood still, but my watch was still running". Van Est won 3 Tour de France stages, and also 3 times the former classic race Bordeaux - Paris which covered more than 550 kilometers in one day - one tough cyclist indeed!
When Van Est made his famous fall, he rode for the Ceylon-Joco-Pontiac team, together with Wout Wagtmans, who is a cousin of Rogelli's founding father Rini Wagtmans.
