To enjoy your clothing, bike, helmet, shoes and accessories as long as possible, it is important to maintain them well. This will maintain its appearance and quality and increases its lifespan.
Use the laundry instructions that are printed on the label. Sports clothing should never be washed hot or spinned for a prolonged time. This damages the fibre which makes it thin and causes it to lose its strength. The temperature depends on the type of fabric. The hotter you wash it, the quicker it will lose its looks. Never use fabric conditioner, this may have an adverse impact on the specific qualities of the fabric.
Ideally, you should dry your clothes without dryer, even when the label indicates that it is allowed. If you hang laundry outside, keep it out of the sun to prevent fading of colours. You don't need to iron sports clothes. Cycling shorts or tights with padding should NEVER go into the dryer. This damages the padding. Clothing that may damage other clothing, such as sharp zippers or velcro tape, is best put into a separate washing bag.
Ideally you wash all cycle clothing by hand, but we understand that most of you will find that a bit too much. Therefore, if you machine wash just don't do so at high temperatures. Don't use too much laundry liquid and try to only wash with matching colours. Select a short programme. After mountain biking or cycling in bad weather, it is recommended to first use a quick rinse to remove mud.
Cycling shoes maintenance
Clean your shoes after every ride, or at least once a week, of course depending on how often you ride. You can spray them with a protective spray. These protect against moist and dirt. Don't leave them outside, because the cleats may rust. This also prevents your shoes from becoming moisty. use socks to prevent bad smells and make sure that they can breathe when you're not using them.
Cycling helmet maintenance
Clean your helmet frequently, from the inside and the outside. If you can take off the padding on the inside then this can be washed or rinsed and then dried. When you sweat a lot it is important to also clean the straps and buckle, to clean off bacteria. If your helmet is damaged, ALWAYS buy a new one. A damaged helmet is not safe and will not provide adequate protection.
In order to keep your bike beautiful and free of rust you need to clean it frequently. Wash off all dirt and maintain it well. Maintaining your bike is not much work when you do it frequently. Unless you are an expert on bike maintenance and repair, it is recommended to bring your bike periodically to a bike repair shop for maintenance. The required frequency depends on how often and how far you ride.
Check your brakes and tyre pressure and be alert to loose spokes. Clean the drive chain frequently and oil it at least once a month to keep it running smoothly. Also check your derailers. If you clean your bike just after cycling any dirt will come off easiest. Repairing small issues also prevents them from escalating into larger defects. Check bolts and nuts and change rusty parts. And of course, don't leave your bicycle outside!

For gloves, bandana's and soft hats we recommend frequent washing, similar to how you should treat your other cycle clothing. Close your gloves so that the velcro straps don't stick to something else and don't collect any dirt. Ideally you should put them in a small laundry bag. Sports bras can be washed with the other clothes as long as they don't have any metal or sharp parts, otherwise you best put them in a separate laundry bag.
Accessories such as saddle bags, bike computers and bottles are best cleaned immediately after your ride. Check your lights frequently so that you won't be surprised in the dark, and consider taking a set of spare lights or batteries with you.
